Endoscopy

Endoscopy is an essential diagnostic tool for evaluating multiple systems.

Its most common application is the evaluation of the upper respiratory tract, allowing detailed examination of the nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, parts of the lungs and other structures, as well as assessment of the lower airways where feasible.

Endoscopically Guided Diagnostic Procedures – Tracheal Wash (TW)

Tracheal wash is a targeted and reliable diagnostic method for the investigation of diseases of the lower respiratory tract, as is bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL).

Through the procedure, airway secretions are collected and analyzed cytologically and bacteriologically.

The examination provides valuable information on inflammatory, infectious, and allergic conditions, contributing substantially both to diagnosis and to determining the appropriate therapeutic approach.

In horses, tracheal wash is an essential tool for the detection of infectious respiratory diseases and the overall assessment of respiratory health.

Bronchoalveolar Lavage (BAL)

Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) allows assessment of the cellular composition of the lower airways and is particularly useful in the investigation of inflammatory and allergic-type respiratory diseases, such as Equine Asthma.

These examinations provide valuable information for differentiating between infectious and non-infectious inflammatory diseases, contributing to a more accurate diagnosis and the selection of the appropriate therapeutic approach.
